OREANDA-NEWS. Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant with a complete production cycle (a part of ISD Corporation) ranked among major Ukrainian steel producers will commission 303 Megawatt Gas Turbine Power Station, a brand new sustainable project unprecedented in Ukraine and CIS countries. The project is a 675 million US dollars investment.

The Official Commissioning marked by presence of Ukrainian President Mr. Yanykovych and top public officials is scheduled on June 20th, 2013 at Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant (Alchevsk, Ukraine).

The project features the unique technology of secondary metallurgical gases transformed into electric power enough to cover plant's needs.

Gas Turbine Power Station functioning without natural gas consumption and allowing for 44% power efficiency is an unparalleled example of synergy between green technology and industrial efficiency for Ukrainian steel production.

The construction activity started in 2007. This ambitious international project embraces technologies of the leading companies, namely Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, YUBA, Nooter Eriksen, as well as Ukrainian project companies Enorgoproekt and Energostal.

Being essential for city's environment and plant's energy efficiency, the technology will also be highly beneficial for Ukraine's fuel balance.

It is the first power station in CIS countries to produce electric power from metallurgical by-products. Whereas previously the excess gases were burnt into atmosphere, after the launch their heating energy will be used to generate power.
