OREANDA-NEWS. June 24, 2013. Assembly of gas inflow node (GIN) to Sulfuric Acid Section is nearing completion at Kola MMC (MMC Norilsk Nickel affiliate) Refinery Workshop.

The node is part of the gas pipe distributing sulfur dioxide feed from fluid-bed furnaces that was fully renovated last year. Serving both as a collector and a distributor, the GIN substantially streamlines the gas inflow to Sulfur Acid Section, especially so when moving from one sulfuric acid production system to another.

Previously in order to change systems the operation had to be suspended for several hours needed for a separation wall to be bricked in, followed by demolishing it upon commissioning. The gas inflow node allows for a technologically superior operation with no suspensions.

The project will downsize manual labor needs and will solve the issue of unintended leaks of sulfur dioxide resulting from equipment deterioration. The new equipment will be assembled by end of June, 2013. Kola MMC will invest over 20 million rubles in the project.
