OREANDA-NEWS.  July 02, 2013. The third world economic power, Japan, backs Moldova’s accession to the European Union, a market of over 500 million inhabitants. During a meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the Kiev-based Japanese Ambassador to Moldova, Toichi Sakata, said that the accession to the European Union was beneficent for Moldova’s economy, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Sakata took the engagement to encourage the Kiev-based Japanese businessmen to come with investment projects in Moldova in order to develop trade and economic relations. Sakata showed interest in consolidating cooperation between the GUAM Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development, to which Moldova and Japan are part.

Leanca thanked the Japanese government for technical and substantial financial assistance provided to Moldova over the past years. Leanca praised the Japanese government’s intention to finance two 67-million-euro projects, which would be meant to improve the medical services and the use of the biomass energy.

Leanca voiced hope that the political dialogue between the two states would foster by organising mutual visits at prime ministers’ level, as well as by opening a Moldovan diplomatic mission in Tokyo. ”A more intense dialogue between our countries will create opportunities for attracting Japanese investments to Moldova,” Leanca said.
