OREANDA-NEWS. Volaris, the largest Mexican low-cost airline, will fly nonstop, three times weekly from Phoenix to Mexico City and Phoenix to Guadalajara beginning in the fourth quarter of this year. Exact days and times of the flights will be announced soon.

"Now we have another great way to welcome our friends from Mexico and to visit them there as well." said Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. “Volaris Airlines provides another strong link to our two economies as we continue to do business with Mexico, our largest trading partner," he added.

With the addition of Phoenix to its network, Volaris will serve a total of 11 destinations in the U.S. They also serve airports in California, Colorado, Nevada, Illinois and Florida.

Enrique Beltranena, CEO of Volaris, said, "The largest Mexican low-cost carrier starting operations in Arizona will clearly stimulate demand for air travel between the state and Mexico and foster economic and cultural exchanges."

Sky Harbor currently serves 20 international cities with nonstop service, including several daily flights to Guadalajara and Mexico City on US Airways.

"We are looking forward to an excellent partnership between Volaris and America's Friendliest Airport," said Danny Murphy, Director of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. "We hope this will be the first of many cities the airline will serve between Phoenix and Mexico."

Fourteen airlines operate at Phoenix Sky Harbor, now including five foreign carriers: Aeromexico, Air Canada, British Airways, Volaris and WestJet.

“This great news is in large part thanks to the support of the Phoenix City Council, and a business delegation, led by Mayor Stanton and Councilman Nowakowski. Together, we traveled to Mexico on several missions to further develop what will be a beneficial relationship for the City of Phoenix,” said City Manager David Cavazos.
