OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2013. The 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility Report (CSR Report) of Norilsk Nickel Group has been publicly endorsed by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) Non-financial Reporting Council.

The RUIE surmises that the Company’s report highlights material information, covers main areas of responsible business practices in accordance with the principles of the Social Charter of Russian Business and exposes the key aspects of the Company’s operations with requisite integrity. Recommendations made by the RUIE resulting from the previous public endorsement have been reflected in the 2012 report.

The Council highlighted efficient work with interested parties, considered a significant criterion, defining the content of the report and choice of areas reported in international practices.

In 2012 much attention was paid to developing conversation with interested parties: public discussions of environmental issues, a CSR roundtable, a sustainable development roadshow. The OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel has approved a Business Ethics Code, aimed at developing corporate culture with definitions of ethical guidelines (principles) and procedures for interaction with interested parties.

As put by Chief of Social Programs and Corporate Events Office of Norilsk Nickel, Svetlana Ivchenko, efficiency of a company’s operations is defined not only by the financial indicators, as a socially responsible company highly values the social atmosphere, perception of stability, safe labor environment and respectable compensation for quality work. The CSR Report is worded in a more balanced manner, it accounts for comments of foreign investor community, local authorities and other interested parties.

The RUIE Non-financial Reporting Council has been publicly endorsing social corporate responsibility reports complying with the best international standards and guidelines since 2009.
MMC Norilsk Nickel is Russia’s corporate leader in social responsibility. The Company expended an estimated 15 billion rubles on social in 2013 with 19 billion expended on environmental projects in 2012.

In 2012 MMC Norilsk Nickel was granted RUIE’s special award for “Family, maternity and childhood support”, in the category titled “Best Russian enterprises. Dynamics, efficiency, Responsibility – 2012”.
