OREANDA-NEWS. July 12, 2013. The JSC AKKUYU NPP has submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report on the Akkuyu NPP project to the Ministry of Environment and City Planning of the Republic of Turkey.
 
The report was submitted in accordance with the EIA Guide published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey (T.C. Resmi Gazete) No. 26939 of 17.07.2008. It consists of 12 sections and has a total of about 3,000 pages. The report contains comprehensive information on many topics, including a general description of the project and an explanation of its goals; a justification of selection of the place where the plant will be built; a socioeconomic scale of the project; a description of the physical, biological and socioeconomic environs where the project is implemented; and the use of natural resources.
 
The EIA report submitted to the Ministry of Environment and City Planning will be studied by a special commission consisting of representatives of various governmental agencies and institutions, universities and other organizations. Having completed the work, the commission will send the results to the Ministry of Environment and City Planning, which will review the commission’s work and, with consideration of the public opinion, will make a decision on the report and notify JSC AKKUYU NPP on that decision.
 
Earlier, on December 2, 2011, in the framework of activities to write the EIA report on the Akkuyu NPP project, an EIA Application File was submitted to the Ministry of Environment and City Planning of the Republic of Turkey. Then, on March 29, 2012 in Buyukeceli Village (Gulnar District, Mersin Province) where the plant will be built, the public hearings on the projects were held. After that, following the meeting results the Ministry of Environment and City Planning defined the special format of the EIA report, which was forwarded to JSC AKKUYU NPP on May 21, 2012.
