OREANDA-NEWS. “Uralmashplant” JSC put into service a new NC vertical turning center equipped produced by the South-Korean company Hankook. Along with the main vertical turning function, the new machine also performs boring operations. This vertical center never had any counterparts at the “Uralmashplant”.

The new equipment allows quick and high-quality machining of parts. For example, turning, milling and drilling operations required to manufacture 1200 mm dia crusher wheel took place on three separate machines, now these operations can be performed on Hankook center without repositioning the part. Also, this machine reduced the time necessary for machining such part as mud pump wheel. Before, wheel machining required four days, now it takes one day less on the new machine.

Hankook will be used for machining parts of mining and drilling equipment that are main Uralmashplant products. This vertical center allows machining of parts up to 4 m in diameter, up to 2.5 m in height and up to 30 ton in weight. The center is equipped with Siemens Sinumerik 840D control system. Up-to-date tools with replaceable cutting inserts enable us to increase cutting mode parameters. Hankook center is equipped with D’Andrea type angle head that extends its functions.

Seven specialists will operate the new machine: machine operators, part-programming engineer, repair man and control equipment setup operator. All of them form part of Uralmashplant personnel and were chosen for working on the new unique equipment on a competitive basis. The Uralmshplant specialists mastered the Siemens Sinumerik numerical program control system in the new interactive training class of the Austrian company EMCO in the Uralmashplant educational center.

Today, the first part - mud pump wheel - is machined on the Hankook center. In the near future, the new unique machine shall be in operation around-the-clock.
