OREANDA-NEWS. July 15, 2013. Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, during his meeting with Dato’ Sri Anifah Bin Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, emphasised that more extensive cooperation with the region of Asia is a significant direction of Latvia’s external economic policy and Latvia intends to develop closer cooperation with Malaysia and other countries of the region.
 
The officials shared the view that for this purpose it would be necessary to organise exchange visits of entrepreneurs from both countries in order to discuss opportunities for mutual contacts in Latvia and Malaysia. Valdis Dombrovskis noted that Latvia plans to appoint its honorary consul in Malaysia by singling out economic cooperation as one of the most important tasks.
 
The Prime Minister also provided information about Latvia’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as well as about the intention to introduce the single EU currency in 2014. These moves will ensure additional benefits for Latvia in its competition for investments, acquisition of new external markets and convincing foreign investors to launch cooperation with Latvia,” Prime Minister said.
 
Valdis Dombrovskis noted that, in the framework of the EU, cooperation of Latvia and Malaysia has been developing in a focused way and that Latvia support concluding the EU Free Trade Agreement with Malaysia in view of opportunities for closer economic ties.
