OREANDA-NEWS. Russian delegation, headed by the general representative of the State Corporation ROSATOM in Eastern Europe Alexander Merten visited Chernobyl NPP on July 18, 2013.

The Russian delegation included representatives of ROSATOM’s subsidiaries - Rusatom Service, headed by Director General Mikhail Kontserev and Deputy Director of the East-European management of Rusatom Overseas with headquarters in Kiev Vitaliy Dragunov.

The leaders of Chernobyl NPP provided the Russian delegation with information on plans for the decommissioning of Units 1,2 and 3 of Chernobyl NPP, also on the current state of the Object Shelter and the progress in its transformation into ecologically safety system.

During the visit the representatives of the ROSATOM reviewed the results of work carried out under the control of JSC Atomstroyexport (a subsidiary of State Corporation ROSATOM) within the implementation of projects under the SIP program: “Stabilization of Object Shelter”, “Increasing safety of Object Shelter”, “Construction of the fire protection system for Object Shelter”and “Building a new ventilation pipe for line II of Chernobyl NPP”.

“We agreed with the management of Chernobyl NPP to study the question of possible participation of ROSATOM’s enterprises in the process of Chernobyl NPP decommissioning. We are aiming at a serious and perspective work in this direction”, noted Alexander Merten after meeting with the management of Chernobyl NPP.

General Representative of ROSATOM emphasized that the experience and expertise of the Corporation allow us to talk with certainty about possible involvement of its enterprises in future tenders for projects on safety improvement of Object Shelter.

For its part Director General “Rusatom Service” Mikhail Kontserev confirmed his company's interest in the development of all-round cooperation with SSE Chornobyl NPP and the other Ukrainian enterprises operating at the site of Chernobyl NPP.

The Russian delegation highly appreciated the efforts taken by the management of Chernobyl NPP to ensure the safety and maintaining vital functions of the Plant’s facilities. According to Alexander Merten, what made a really big impression was the attitude of Chernobyl NPP administration to the safety of working and seconded staff at the station.
