OREANDA-NEWS. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced that its Outlander has been named a 2013 "Top Safety Pick+" award winner by the United States' Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Outlander joins the Outlander Sport in being recognized as a "Top Safety Pick+," making MMC the only manufacturer with two "Top Safety Pick+" in the Small SUV category. The Outlander Sport has already been recognized by the IIHC in two straight years as a "Top Safety Pick" in 2012 and 2013.

The IIHS awards the new "Top Safety Pick+" designation as its highest accolade for vehicles that offer superior crash protection. The Outlander's "Top Safety Pick+" achievement indicates that it meets the tougher crash safety standards that are now necessary to receive IIHS' highest award. So far only 3 out of a total of 15 vehicles tested in the category were designated as a "Top Safety Pick+."

The Outlander's exceptional IIHS "Top Safety Pick+" rating can be attributed to numerous advanced high-tech design features, particularly to its Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body.

The Outlander gathers another recognition for safety as it has also been recognized for collision safety in Australia, awarded five stars by ANCAP, as well as in Japan, taking the JNCAP Five Star award as well as First Prize. In addition, the Forward Collision Mitigation System (FCM) advanced active safety technology used in the Outlander was recognized in Europe by Euro NCAP.
