OREANDA-NEWS. Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (“MTS” - NYSE: MBT), the leading telecommunications operator in Russia and the CIS, announces the commercial launch of its LTE FDD (frequency division duplexing) network in Tambov and the Tambov region.

MTS has deployed LTE networks covering the whole territory of Tambov. By the end of 2013, MTS will further double the number of base stations in the city to ensure quality coverage in schools, hospitals, and libraries. MTS will also extend coverage to additional population centers of the Tambov region.

Andrey Ushatskiy, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for MTS, commented, “MTS is aggressively rolling-out LTE networks throughout Russia. We are focused on bringing high-speed broadband access to the residents of the largest Russian cities as well as smaller towns. Overall, till the end of 2014 we will cover around 600 population centers of the Russian Federation.”

Multi-standard 4G modems and routers, as well as a number of tablets and smartphones from Samsung, Sony, Nokia, LG and other leading vendors are compatible with MTS’s LTE FDD network.

Previously, MTS has launched commercial LTE TDD and FDD networks in Moscow.
