OREANDA-NEWS. August 16, 2013. The No.2 superfine Blast Furnace (BF) slag powder production line was successfully hot commissioned in TISCO on July 22, which indicates that TISCO has formed the superfine BF slag powder production line with the largest processing capacity in the world and all the BF slag generated by TISCO will be recycled.
     
BF slag is the by-product of ironmaking. Due to the fact that the particle size of the superfine BF slag is smaller than that of the cement, it can be used as the cement admixture to greatly improve the service life and technical index of the cement and concrete and reduce the production cost of cement and concrete. The product has an extremely extensive application prospect such as road and ocean infrastructure, chemical industry, plastics industry and Cosmetics Industry. In the past the unprocessed BF slag was directly sold to the cement industry, the product added value and resource utilization of the BF slag was very low. It is an urgent task for the large iron and steel producers to convert the BF slag into high value added BF slag power.
     
In May 2010,as an important part of its green development strategy, the No. 1 superfine BF slag powder production line with annual design capacity of 1 million tons was built in TISCO. Till now No.1 superfine BF slag powder production line has produced 2.4 million tons of superfine BFslag powder and achieved good economic and social benefits. Based on the No.1 production line, TISCO began to build No.2 superfine BF slag powder production line from May 2012. No.2 superfine BF slag powder production line adopted the largest vertical mill with the millstone diameter of 6.3mm, its annual design capacity is 1.7 million tons. The project got the support from the Country, Shanxi Province and Taiyuan City, was the key project in Shanxi Province.
 
The new process technologies of the line was independently developed and integrated by TISCO, the whole production line is fully automated, the production and transportation is totally enclosed, the process is more reasonable, the production cost is lower, the product is cleaner and finer and the product quality and performance is more stable. “The development and application of vertical mill process to produce superfine BF slag powder by the granulated BF slag” has passed the appraisement made by Shanxi Provincial Scientific and Technological Achievement Committee of Experts and been identified as “achieve the advanced level in country and is worth popularization.”
 
When put into operation, the project will totally change the treatment mode of the BF slag of TISCO. The project will not only reprocess and utilize the BF slag resources but also improve the value-added and the scientific and technological content of the product, and has significant environmental and economic benefits. According to the annual output of 2.7 million tons of superfine BF slag powder, this equates to reduce 4.35 million tons of mine resources that is needed by the cement industry, can achieve 174 million yuan in cost saving annually, greatly reduce carbon dioxide emission, injects a new impetus to the improvement of green development of TISCO and further indicates TISCO’s exemplary and leading role in green development.
