OREANDA-NEWS. OMZ-Foundry Production, part of OMZ Group, signed a contract with JSC Baltiysky Zavod on manufacturing stempost castings for the LK-25 ice breaker which is currently under construction.

Stempost is an especially firm construction of a ship's bow . On Baltiysky Zavod it will be constructed of nine parts manufactured by OMZ-Foundry Production. Such castings for ships are produced out of extra hard steel and possess especially high level of wear resistance.

In line with the signed contract OMZ-Foundry Production will deliver castings worth 11.7 mln rubles by December 2013.

Ice breaker LK-25 of new generation is the most powerful diesel-electric ice breaker worldwide. It has been designed in line with Federal Special Purpose Programme on the development of Russian Transportation system in 2010-2015 (“Marine transport” subprogramme). Construction works of the ship “Viktor Chernomyrdin” have been launched in October 2012.

Shipbuilding casting is a traditional profile for the enterprise. The order of Baltiysky Zavod is not the only one in terms of the new generation ice breaker project: the enterprise also manufactures blades, hobs and other castings. The participation of OMZ-Foundry Production in this strategic project is yet more proof of high quality and competitiveness of the enterprise's products.
