OREANDA-NEWS. August 22, 2013. This was announced by the Minister of Economic Development of Transnistria Maya Parnas, who noted that the Moldavian HES (Dnestrovsk) resumes electricity supplies to the Moldovan market. According to her, previously the Moldavian HES “abandoned” the Moldovan market and, accordingly, reduced the volume of electricity supplies for export.

This fact alongside with the suspension of activity of other main companies in the region - Moldova Steel Works and Ribnita cement plant, has led to a decline in the industrial production and decrease in exports. As Maya Parnas noted, in I half of 2013 the volume of production of industrial companies in the region decreased by 24%.

However, if we exclude production of 3 largest companies in the region (MSW, Ribnita cement plant and Moldavian HES), then the remaining volume of the marketable production of Transnistrian enterprises increased by 17.5%. As InfoMarket agency has informed before, the industrial output in Transnistria in I half of 2013 in USD terms fell by 24% - up to USD 289.6 million. The decline was mainly due to downtime of MSW, leading to decrease in the industrial output of the black steel products in January-June 2013 by 98.6%- up to USD 1.14 million vs. USD 83.4 million for the same period of 2012.

As to electric power industry, the production volumes for the first 6 months 2013 decreased by 19.2% - up to USD 126.5 million. At the same time, after the suspension of supplies from the Moldavian HES, Moldova has significantly increased electricity imports from the Ukraine.

As InfoMarket agency informed before, in I half of 2013 Moldova has increased electricity imports from the Ukraine by 2.1 times (410 million kW / h) - up to 796.3 million kW / h. In January-June this year amount of electricity purchased by Moldova from the Ukraine totaled \\$ 42.3 million. Moldova acquires Ukrainian electricity for 6.9 cents per 1 kW / h.
