OREANDA-NEWS. August 22, 2013. As InfoMarket was informed in the press service of the Ministry of Economy, the contract for construction works was signed by the head of the ministry Valeriu Lazar with the winner of tender - a consortium of 3 Romanian companies - JV Habau Pipeline Systems (founded by the Austrian Habau Hoch-und Tiefbaugesellschaft mbH), Inspet SA and IPM-Partners Romania for construction on the territory of Moldova of 11 km gas pipeline Ungheni-Iasi and the gas metering station.

The winner of tender was recently selected by the Competition Commission. This bidder met all the conditions of competition and offered the best administrative and technical proposal for the best price - 6.65 million euro. In addition, the consortium has large experience in construction both gas mains with 500-1400 mm diameter pipe and metering stations.

The consortium portfolio also includes construction projects of constructing gas mains along the bottom of rivers (in Poland, Germany, UK, Italy, etc.). Officially, the construction of the pipeline will commence on August 27. As it was informed before, the pipeline Unhgeni-Iasi will integrate gas transmission system of Moldova and Romania, strengthen energy security of our country and diversify sources and routes of supply of the natural gas to Moldova.

The length of the pipeline Ungheni-Iasi will make 43.2 km, about 11 km of which will be built on the territory of Moldova. The pipeline will transport 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, which is comparable to the annual volume of gas imports of Moldova, excluding Transnistria.

It is planned that using pipeline Ungheni-Iasi Moldova will import gas from Romania as well as will buy it from Azerbaijan and other countries within the framework of international projects such as Nabucco, etc.
