OREANDA-NEWS. The Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO has acted as a consultant to UAC on the “Engineers of the Future” project on creation of an educational cluster in Zhukovsky. The core challenge of the new educational institution is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge that are needed for efficient work in the branch and will be in demand within 10-15 years. The corporation's initiative was supported by the Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation, the Russian Engineering Union and leading technical universities.

According to the research of an aircraft building engineer's competence profile, conducted by the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO and UAC, technical knowledge will make up only 40% of the required qualities in the nearest future. Project management skills will make up about 30%, enterprise management - 20% and suppliers chain management - the remaining 10%.

“The project intends to raise specialists that acquire not only deep theoretical knowledge, but practical skills and best international practices as well. While building aircrafts of new types, specialists need such skills as project management, suppliers chain management, work with modern composite materials, etc. We are going to stress upon competences that are highly demanded right now and will be important in the future”, notes Mikhail Pogosyan, President of UAC.

“Projects of such a level can only be brought to life by joint efforts of leading Russian universities. Apart from that on the initial stages the support of private companies and state corporations is highly significant. The educational cluster can become the first large-scale project in the sphere of engineering education implemented together by the state and the private sector”, comments Andrei Volkov, Dean of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO.
