OREANDA-NEWS. Avelar Energy Group, a unit of Russian multi-industry holding Renova Group, plans to build around 600 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacities in Russia by 2020, CEO Igor Akhmerov said.

A government ruling on support of renewable energy implies that 1.5 gigawatts of solar power capacities will be built in Russia by 2020.

Avelar plans to bid for the construction of around 10 projects with a capacity of at least 50 MW at September capacity tenders, a newly introduced mechanism of government support for renewable energy development.

At first round of capacity tenders, the company will bid for solar power projects in the republic of Bashkortostan on the Volga, the cities of Orenburg and Chelyabinsk in the Urals, and the republic of Altai in Siberia, Akhmerov said.

The company is also cooperating with the Rostov and Astrakhan regions, and the republic of Kalmykia in southern Russia, he said.
