OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2013. Ukraine will not spare efforts to increase trade turnover between Ukraine and Russia, between Ukraine and countries of the Customs Union. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov announced during a session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Mykola Azarov informed that on Monday an official visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine to the Russian Federation had taken place. On commission of the President of Ukraine there were held negotiations with the Head of Government of Russia Dmytro Medvedev and leaders of ministries and departments who are responsible for foreign economic relations.

“The need to discuss Ukrainian-Russian trade and economic relations has emerged not only because recently we had to immediately regulate complications concerning customs clearance of Ukrainian goods in Russia,” Mykola Azarov noted. “It is principally important that on a certain stage of various integration processes, in which both Russia and Ukraine are participating, the strategic partners (which our countries are) have a necessity to precise the positions and elaborate a projection of interaction under conditions that are changeable”.

At this, the Head of Government stressed that every party had to calculate both its profits and its risks.

The whole world, the whole global system of economic relations is changing, so it is just unpromising to insulate oneself with artificial trade barriers. First of all, for the sake of national economics. That’s why Ukraine has entered the World Trade Organization. The same was made by Russia. As the WTO norms and rules were specially created as a mechanism of fair coordination of interests under conditions of constant changes in the global trade area.

“That’s why we must use WTO principles in a system, so that to find optimal decisions,” Mykola Azarov emphasized.

The Premier underlined that Ukraine saw its goal in growing volumes and quality of Ukrainian-Russian trade and economic relations under any conditions. As the positive dynamics of bilateral total trade is our principal achievement in the recent years. Hence, to draw new dividing lines is not in the interests of our nations.

“We consider our common task is to facilitate in every way the increase of total trade between Ukraine and Russia, between Ukraine and the countries of the Customs Union,” Mykola Azarov said. “This task was formulated during the recent meeting of Presidents Viktor Yanukovych and Volodymyr Putin, this is what economies of our countries need”.
