OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2013. Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov attended the ceremony inaugurating the 10 bcm/a capacity building project at the No. 1 Natural Gas Processing Plant of the Galkynysh gas field in Mary, Turkmenistan. President Xi spoke highly of the project as another fine example of bilateral energy cooperation for mutual benefits.

The project, testifying to the willingness of the Chinese and Turkmen peoples to boost development through cooperation, will inject fresh and strong impetus to energy cooperation between the two countries. By forging a strategic partnership, China and Turkmenistan have unleashed new opportunities for deepening their energy cooperation, President Xi said.

Located in the hinterland of the Karakum Desert, Galkynysh gas field is the world's second largest gas field. The largest of its kind in Asia, No. 1 Natural Gas Processing Plant of the Galkynysh gas field constructed by CNPC marks a significant milestone in energy cooperation between the two countries.
