OREANDA-NEWS.Vale has been rated as the company that emits the lowest levels of greenhouse gases (GHG) per unit of revenue in the mining sector. This data was included in the CDP Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013, published this week.

In addition, we were part of the ranking of the world's leading companies on transparency in climate reporting. We were awarded 98 points (on a scale of 0 to 100) for transparency and demonstrated a high performance in the management of our emissions.

Committed to managing its emissions, in 2012 Vale set a target to reduce its 2020 projected GHG emissions by 5%. In order to do this, the company has adopted a methodology similar to the sector-specific plans developed in Brazil aligned with the National Climate Change Policy. The company is also working directly with its value chain. Last year alone, 170 suppliers were trained in how to work with GHG emissions inventories.
