New Delhi: Taking another step forward in its distribution network automation programme, Tata Power Delhi Distribution, a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, today commissioned a 66kV grid substation at Sector-28, Rohini. The newly commissioned grid substation will benefit over 1 lakh existing and new TPDDL consumers in 27, 28 and 29 sectors of Rohini and Shahbad Diary, Delhi College of Engineering and Prahladpur areas, etc. The grid substation has been built at a total cost of Rs15.5 crore.

The state-of-the-art grid substation was dedicated to TPDDL consumers by Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi. Also present on the occasion were Haroon Yusuf, Minister of Power, Government of Delhi, and Surender Kumar, MLA, Bawana.

The 66kV Rohini 28 grid substation is an unmanned grid and will be remote-operated from TPDDL's state-of- the- art supervisory controlled and data acquisition centre. The new grid substation will further improve the reliability of power supply and felicitate load growth in the above-mentioned areas.

The 66kV Rohini 28 grid substation has an installed capacity of 50 MVA with two incoming supplies of 66kV and 16 outgoing supplies of 11 kV feeders to the TPDDL network. It is equipped with state-of-the-art relays and power transformers with nitrogen injection and fire prevention and extinction system for safe and reliable power supply.

Dedicating the grid substation to TPDDL consumers, Ms Dikshit said, “ The demand for electricity in Delhi is growing with each passing year. Commissioning of the new 66kV Rohini 28 grid substation will go a long way in ensuring reliable power supply in Rohini and surrounding areas. The efforts put in by TPDDL towards quality power supply and consumer services in North and North West Delhi are commendable. I am sure the company will continue with this good work.”

Addressing the gathering, Mr Yusuf said, “ I appreciate TPDDL's efforts towards network augmentation. This new grid is equipped with next-generation distribution technologies. It has been constructed keeping in mind the present and the future requirements of the area and to take care of any unforeseen eventuality. It will provide uninterrupted power to around one lakh consumers. The better power reliability will also fuel the overall growth of Rohini and its adjoining areas.”

Speaking on the occasion, Praveer Sinha, CEO & ED, TPDDL, said, “Our focus has always been on the strengthening of our network for customer convenience. The commissioning of 66kV Rohini 28 grid substation is a reflection of our commitment to the N-1 model of power supply, meaning technical problem or overloading at one place should not affect supply in other areas. We are committed to make our network as robust as possible so that it can meet any eventualities. This remote-operated grid substation will lead to better reliability of supply. Our consumers can look forward to many more such initiatives of network augmentation in the days to come.”
