OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2013. A Clean City National project has announced the commencement of attracting investors for construction of first 10-ecological complexes to recycle a solid household waste in Ukraine. This was started by the Chairman of the State Agency for Investment and National Projects (SAINP)Vladyslav Kaskiv.

"There is no recycling industry in Ukraine. The Clean City National project makes it possible not only to improve the environmental situation in the country, but also to create new industry. So today we begin the process of selecting investors for construction of first 10-ecological waste recycling plants in Ukraine," Vladyslav Kaskiv said. - Estimated amount of investments ranges from UAH 20 to 50 million on a pilot city and the total amount - around UAH 320 million," the Head of the Agency said.

According to him the implementation of national project and commissioning of waste recycling plants will provide 55 thousand jobs.

During the event Mr. Kaskiv said that Ukraine has annually 14 million tons of waste - about 350 kg of waste per resident in the country. Moreover, only 5% of waste is recycled and 95% is transported to the landfill. Today, garbage landfills occupy 4% of the state.

The project involves the introduction of innovative technologies of waste management in 10 pilot cities: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, Chernivtsi.
