OREANDA-NEWS. The vice-minister of China’s State Administration for Chinese Industry and Commerce (SAIC), Liu Yuting, visited Vale this month to learn more about our activities in China. He emphasized that one of the objectives of the visit was to evaluate the services rendered by SAIC, an entity that regulates and protects the rights of companies and foreign consumers in China.

After attending a presentation, Mr. Yuting insisted on thanking Vale on behalf of the Chinese government for all their social work they have been accomplishing in China, especially after the earthquake that struck the provinces of Sichuan and Qinghai in 2008, taking the lives of more than 90,000 people.

Vale and China

Our partnership with China began in July of 1973 and, over the years, has become increasingly solid. Currently, about 50% of our yearly exports go to this Asian country.

Vale’s action in Sichuan

After the earthquake, our company donated USD 400,000 to the China Youth Development Foundation, which was responsible for the creation of three primary schools in Sichuan province in China, known as the Hope Schools. A total of 1,200 students and teachers benefitted from this action. A 4th school was built at the end of last year in Qinghai. The support of local initiatives with an emphasis on social responsibility demonstrates our concern for the community.
