OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2013. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Moldova on Tuesday during presentation of the third national report on implementation of the Millennium Development Goals in Moldova. Iurie Leanca noted that level of poverty in Moldova fell from 34.5 % in 2006 up to 20.8 % in 2012 (number of people living on less than USD 4.3 per day).

"This is the merit of those who work in Moldova and abroad and provides family income," - Iurie Leanca said. He stressed that at the same time, every fifth citizen of Moldova is still considered to be poor and this is a big problem. According to the prime minister, the government has committed to increase the number of jobs.

“In order to achieve this goal, we are working on two fronts. First of all, we negotiate with major foreign investors. In particular, 2-3 more large companies may come to Moldova. We are also trying to reduce the administrative burden on SMEs and to improve business environment” - said Iurie Leanca. He noted that it is also important to improve access to primary education and promote gender equality.
