OREANDA-NEWS. The United Metallurgical Company (CJSC OMK) has fully fulfilled its contractual obligation to deliver large-diameter pipes for the Central Asia-China-3 project which is aimed at increasing the Kazakhstan-China main gas pipeline’s capacity. From January to September of 2013, OMK has shipped the customer 115,000 tonnes of pipe of the following parameters: diameter - 1,219 mm, wall thickness - 17.5 mm, steel strength grade L555M/X80M, with external and internal corrosion-resistant coating. The large-diameter pipes for Kazakhstan’s part of the line were produced at Vyksa Steel Works (JSC VSW, Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod, a part of OMK) from the own-made sheet manufactured at the Heavy Plate Mill 5000. Production and testing of the pipes, which are in compliance with API (American Petroleum Institute) Specification 5L (PSL 2 level), were handled by inspectors from Moody International.

In 2008-2009, OMK delivered 260,000 tonnes of pipe (diameter - 1,067 mm, wall thickness - 15.9 mm) with external and internal corrosion-resistant coating for the construction of the first two sections of the Central Asia-China pipeline (Uzbekistan-China and Kazakhstan-China lines).

OMK President Vladimir Markin stated, “The successful fulfillment of contractual obligations on such a large-scale project is evidence of OMK’s high capability in producing and delivering pipes to construct of the very largest gas and oil pipeline projects both in Russia and abroad. We hope that the experience gained in deliveries of LDPs for the three sections of the Central Asia-China pipeline will add to OMK’s advantage during implementation of pipeline projects in the future, including those in CIS territories.”
