OREANDA-NEWS. October 07, 2013. President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych participated in the opening of Svitlovodsk river terminal – the first grain shipment enterprise of Kirovohrad region at Dnipro River which can simultaneously receive and ship the wagons and barges.

“We participate in the restoration of transport potential of Dnipro River and, in the future, of other waterways of our country,” Viktor Yanukovych said at the opening ceremony.

According to the Head of State, the opening of such terminals is an important part of a large-scale strategy of river transport development. It will create new jobs and improve the quality of life in the region.

“The potential of Ukrainian rivers as an important transport artery has been neglected for a long time. Today’s event actually opens a new page in the development of Ukrainian transport complex,” Viktor Yanukovych noted.

The President emphasized that the restoration of Ukrainian waterways allowed reducing pressure on motorways and railways as well as budget expenditures for their repair.

“Our rivers must function – it is the most powerful component of national transport infrastructure,” the Head of State added.

The President expressed gratitude to the builders, engineers, agrarians and everyone who made a contribution to the implementation of the given large-scale project.

Director of “Hermes-Trading” Yuri Skichko demonstrated the stages of the construction of the river terminal, the system of its work and the production capacity to the President. He also demonstrated the potential of developing Svitlovodsk river terminal. Yuri Skichko addressed the Head of State with a request to facilitate restoration of Dnipro as a powerful transport artery.

After the opening of the terminal, the President had a conversation with its personnel and noted: “We must build more such modern enterprises for they are the future of the country”.
