As the Minister of Informational Technologies and Communications Pavel Filip has noted, the electronic identity card will contain the digital-signature and serve as a tool for personal identification in automated informational systems and resources, and for provision of electronic services.

ID card with microprocessor (III-generation) will be issued simultaneously with the existing IDs (II-generation).

Electronic identity card promotes use of ICT tools and allows evaluating the benefits offered by information society for safety, comfort and well-being of citizens.
