OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2013. The movement of the Moldovan freight and passenger trains on the railway sectors from Giurgiulesti to Basarabeasca, southern Moldova, the itinerary of which include three customs points, might take place in a simplified transit regime.

The Transport and Road Infrastructure Ministry and the Ukrainian authorities reached an agreement to this effect at negotiations that ended in Kiev.

Deputy Transport and Road Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Cebotari, who led the Moldovan negotiation group, said that the sides agreed to amend the agreement between the Moldovan and Ukrainian governments on the rail transport’s work. It is about the exclusion of the compulsoriness to pass through the customs and border control as regards the trains transiting these customs points, which are moving from Moldova to Moldova. The same applies to Ukraine.

Cebotari underlined that, so far, the Moldovan trains that were circulating via southern Moldova and were forced to transit three customs points, had been obliged to pass the control procedure six times– each time both at the exit and entrance. This fact significantly increased the crossing period on that segment of road, as well as the costs of goods transportation.

The amendments to the agreement will be soon submitted to the government for approval.
