OREANDA-NEWS. October 09, 2013. The low temperatures make the producers of table grapes to hasten the gathering of the harvest. The head of the Cimislia-based Entrepreneur Cooperative “Basan Agro” Ion Baban has told IPN that he has yet 100 tonnes of table grapes to collect and, in order to harvest them quicker, he contracted another 100 workers from a specialized organization.

The producer said that if he does not manage to gather the crop in the near future, the quality of grapes will worsen and they will be thus sold at a lower price.

Anatol Fala, program coordinator at the National Rural Development Agency, said the low temperatures will also affect the fields of vegetable, especially tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. The cabbage, beets and carrots are more resistant to cold and can bear temperatures of minus 2 degrees Celsius.

The Stat Hydrometeorology Service issued a yellow code advisory for ground frost for the whole territory of the country. Until October 3, nighttime temperatures will vary around minus 1 and minus 3 degrees Celsius.
