OREANDA-NEWS. Today, KAMAZ vehicles running on natural gas: trucks, buses, loaders, sweeping machines, etc. – have been presented in St. Petersburg, at Rastrelli Square (in front of Smolny Cathedral), in the presence of Aleksandr Drozdenko, Governor of Leningrad Oblast.

The governor and directors of municipal and road services, passenger and cargo carriers examined 11 units of the new model range of KAMAZ vehicles running on natural gas. After the presentation in the House of Government of Leningrad Oblast, Aleksandr Drozdenko, Governor of the region, and Sergey Kogogin, General Director of OJSC KAMAZ, signed a memorandum on cooperation to expand the use of NGVs in Leningrad Oblast, particularly in the supply of KAMAZ buses to passenger carriers of Lomonosov and Gatchina regions.

During the subsequent press conference, Sergey Kogogin noted that the agreement signed with Leningrad Oblast would become an important step in promotion of CNG vehicles, “St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast are strategically important areas for KAMAZ striving to expand the geography of NGV sales. KAMAZ has potential to help convert almost 50% of public transport to gas fuel,” the top manager of KAMAZ said.

It should be recalled that this summer it was decided to convert municipal vehicles and passenger transport means of Leningrad Oblast to an alternative fuel – natural gas. This will help to reduce economic costs and rate growth, because the cost of motor gas fuel is half as high as that of petrol or diesel fuel. The use of natural gas as a fuel is beneficial not only to owners of vehicle fleets who can reduce costs for vehicle operation, but also to all residents of the city and the region. Methane is the safest and environmentally friendly fuel the use of which will significantly reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
