OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2013. Acquiring by Ukraine an associated membership in CERN gives us an opportunity to look on prospects of technological development of the country more  confidently, the chairman of the State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization of Ukraine Volodymyr Semynozhenko informed during a briefing dedicated to the topic “Signing the Agreement with CERN – deepening of European integration in science” held in press center of the House of Government.

Volodymyr Semynozhenko stressed that owing to the associated membership Ukrainian physicists and engineers could participate in huge experimental projects – in the first place, on Large Hadron Collider which owing to opening of Higgs boson have been in top news for several recent days. Besides, cooperation with CERN will afford to Ukraine to successfully develop the national segment of GRID computing and fulfill orders for production highly technological production necessary for and necessary for equipping Collider and materials and mechanisms that are to be used in development of CERN infrastructure. On conviction of Volodymyr Semynozhenko, cooperation with CERN on the constant basis prove that Ukraine is capable to collaborate with Europe on equal terms already today – as a full-fledged member that uses cooperation for intensifying of domestic scientific and technical potential.

According to the head of State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization, CERN can be compared to a huge laboratory where there is going on search of new methods and technologies in the area of nuclear medicine, information communication technologies, alternative energy and nanotechnologies. The overwhelming majority of these solutions have huge practical meaning.

Moreover, he underlined that owing to the associated membership young Ukrainian scientists and school teachers would continue to participate in trainings and educational programs. There have finished training in CERN 57 Ukrainian teachers, another 30 are being trained there nowadays. The Head of the State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization emphasized that the way to the growth of competitive advantages starts just from qualitative teaching of exact sciences in secondary school – from this point of view the CERN educational programs have huge importance for us.
