OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian managers association and the Kommersant publishing house have presented a “TOP-1000” rating of Russia's best managers. The rating of the chief information officers working in the Mechanical engineering industry included the name of Yuriy Zelenkov, NPO Saturn CIO.

Over the past ten years this rating has served to distinguish the country's most professional executives, unquestionable leaders in their respective fields of operation. The goal is to come up with an independent, unbiased and comprehensive evaluation of the professional level of Russia's senior executives which reflects the professional aptitude of the companies' leaders while taking into account the modern-day particularities of Russian business.

Nowadays not a single company in the aerospace business is able to engineer a new product without a truly advanced IT backbone. At the same time, the state of development of the applied information systems demonstrates the level of robustness of a company's business processes.

NPO Saturn has succeeded in creating a virtual design environment incorporating the following components: 3D systems allowing to design products and their respective production processes, supercomputer engineering computation systems as well as test data acquisition and analysis systems. In 2005 and 2008 NPO Saturn put into operation the supercomputers with the capacity of 1.0 and 14.3 terraflops respectively, each of them was rated the highest performing computer in the industry. The number of measuring channels during engine tests went up 100 times; a system enabling to process up to 1 petabyte of test data was created.

“The fact that I made it to this list cannot be looked at as my individual achievement, it should be regarded rather as an achievement of the NPO Saturn IT directorate and of NPO Saturn as a company, - noted Yuriy Zelenkov. - As a result of the introduction of the NPO Saturn-based CAD systems, a gas turbine design lead time was reduced 3 times. It is equally important to note that today the IT support has become an inalienable part of a gas turbine engine production and revenue service processes. Some tangible results have been achieved with relation to the customer support operations; as a matter of fact the IT systems are already operational for both the D-30KU/KP engines, industrial power plants and the SaM146 engines”.
