OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca today participated in the launch of the first traffic and public order monitoring and control centre. In his speech, Leanca highlighted that this large-scale project would allow monitoring the traffic and public order on 41 cross roads from Chisinau, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.

„The new system of traffic monitoring and control will discipline the participants in the traffic, reduce the number of breaches, which means fewer accidents and more saved human lives. Another positive effect would be the diminishing of the corruption risk - you cannot agree with the camera! China's experience shows that the video monitoring also has a favourable effect on diminishing criminality, as it allows faster identifying the wrongdoers,” Leanca said.

Leanca thanked the Chinese government and the former prime minister, Vlad Filat, who also attended this event, for the success of this project.

„I have a feeling of satisfaction, as we witness an achievement. This achievement is a step of Moldova's modernisation, a step towards the European integration and this means better living conditions for citizens,” Filat said.

Subsequently, representatives of the above-mentioned centre made a presentation of the way it works. Two video cameras were set at the intersection of the Dacia-Aeroportul Vechi and Bucuresti-Maria Cebotari streets in September.

This system will allow capturing the registration numbers of the cars passing in the supervised area, including the driver's photo, and sets the average speed of the transport unit.

After familiarising with the new monitoring centre, Leanca said: „This is a transparent system, so that nobody would be able to contest that he/she exceeded the speed or infringed the traffic rules”.

Another 39 video cameras will be placed by late 2013, and the project will be extended all over Moldova till 2015.

The Chinese government has provided a 4.5-million dollar grant, and the Moldovan government earmarked 6.5 million lei for assembling, construction and telecommunications works.
