OREANDA-NEWS. Transstroymekhanizatsiya, a subsidiary of Mostotrest, has won an open tender for Phase 2 upgrade of the M-9 segment between km 50+016 and km 82+878 in the Moscow Region. The company's specialists will have to rebuild the road segment and upgrade bridge structures, including flyovers, bridges and junctions. The project is scheduled for completion by the beginning of 2016.

M-9 Baltiya is a Grade 1 federal highway stretching from Moscow via Volokolamsk to the Latvian border (and on to Riga), passes through the Moscow, Tver and Pskov Regions and is part of the European route E22. The open tender for Phase 2 upgrade of the M-9 segment was held by Central Highways Federal Government Agency. The total value of the government contract is about RUB 8.8 billion (including VAT).

As part of the upgrade, TSM will increase the width of the roadway to three lanes in each direction and rebuild and expand the roadway of nine flyovers and two bridges, including expanding the supports and replacing structures in line with the technical requirements. The excess roads will be upgraded at all four existing junctions at the intersection with the M-9 Baltiya Highway segment under reconstruction.

Protective barriers will be installed along the roadsides and the central reserve in order to ensure traffic safety on the road segment. To reduce the environmental impact, noise barriers will be mounted in the residential areas, and the entire length of the road segment will be equipped with water treatment facilities and areas for dumping snow.

During the reconstruction, road traffic will be kept open in both directions along the whole length of the segment.

The project will make it possible to increase the carrying capacity on the M-9 Baltiya Highway segment, while significantly reducing transport costs and the time it takes to cover this segment. The design speed post upgrade will be 120 kph.
