OREANDA-NEWS. A new automated control system (ACS) has been installed at Kola MMC (MMC Norilsk Nickel affiliate) pump stations supplying water to key production units. The two stations provide reverse water supply of the refinery, nickel electrowinning and energy supply workshops.

In the past the pump stations were controlled manually, often resulting in surplus water getting dumped in the sewage under light load or other reasons. Subsequently depending on a load a water deficit could be encountered, which was offset by drawing water from natural sources.

The new ACS puts the pumps in sync which will significantly cut water discharges and fresh water intake all the while increasing reliability under decreased risk of contingencies.

Cost benefits from the project amount to an estimated RUB 4 million per annum.
