OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2013. "To reduce the consumption of natural gas, introduce energy efficiency technologies and improve quality of water supply and wastewater the Government in cooperation with international financial institutions (IFIs) is being implemented 4 projects worth over UAH 3 billion," Vice Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul said.

In particular, joint with the World Bank development projects of local infrastructure worth 140 million dollars is being implemented in 14 cities of 12 regions of Ukraine. The project is aimed on upgrading water supply and wastewater systems. The project involves Odesa, Chernihiv, Boryspil, Kamenetz-Podolsk, Cherkasy, Coloma, Drogobic Kharkiv, Kalush, Kremenchug, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn Novograd, Slovyansk, Nova Kahovka.

"The average rate of electricity saving at utility companies that have completed the implementation of the project is 30% and water losses are reduced by 5%," Olexandr Vilkul said. The works within the project is completed in 5 cities - Cherkassy, Colomyia, Nova Kahovka, Drohobych and Kamyanets-Podilskyi.

A project of the European Investment Bank on the modernization of water supply and wastewater systems amounting of 31 million euros is being implemented in the city of Mykolaiv. Within the project about 20 km network are being replacing, 18 pumping stations are being upgraded, treatment plant are being reconstructed and 2 new septic tanks are being built. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2015, it is expected the reduction by 25% of electricity consumption and by 5% - water losses in the networks, and increasing the quality of water supply and sanitation, preserving ecosystems in the South Bug River Basin and the Black Sea.

The third project is the modernization of heating supply system, sanitation and energy conservation is being implemented in Ukraine in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the amount of 147.5 million euros in 8 cities: Big Yalta, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Lviv, Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Cherkasy.

Also, in order to implement energy efficiency measures in the heat sector Demo Ukraine project in the amount of 10 million euros is being implemented in Ukraine together with the NEFCO. To participate in the project selected 10 cities: Donetsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsya, Zhytomyr, Kamenetz-Podolsk, Kyiv, Alexandria, Krivoy Rog, Poltava, Sieverodonetsk. Currently, Zhitomyr and Vinnytsya had already signed the financial agreement.

"The Government is working to implement 5 joint with international financial organizations projects to modernize housing and public utilities worth almost UAH 10 billion," Olexandr Vilkul said.
