OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2013. This was announced by the Minister of Regional Development and Construction Marcel Raducan during the meeting of the government, where the commence of negotiations on the appropriate amendments to the Moldovan- Romanian intergovernmental agreement on implementation of the Program of technical and financial assistance totaling 100 million euro granted to Moldova by Romania was approved. Marcel Raducan reminded that the gas pipeline project Ungheni - Iasi is also co-financed by the EU.

The length of the gas pipeline Ungheni - Iasi will make 43.2 km, about 11 km of which will be built on the territory of Moldova. The pipeline will enable Moldova to receive natural gas from the alternative sources. The agreement on implementation of the free technical and financial assistance program to Moldova worth 100 million euro was signed in Bucharest on April 27, 2010. Within four years Romania has committed to provide Moldova with free financial aid amounting to 100 million euro - 25 million euro per year.

The funds were originally intended for implementation of infrastructure projects in Moldova, in particular, road repair, upgrading schools, etc. Then, the Romanian government has expanded the agreement and presupposed the provision of humanitarian assistance, including victims of floods in summer 2010. Subsequently, the additional protocol to the agreement provided implementation of the energy sector projects.
