OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2013. SORAINEN Latvia has successfully represented BPT Real Estate Services, one of the leading real estate investors in the Baltic Sea region, in a trade mark dispute. The International Olympic Committee challenged the trade mark “Olimpia”, which was used as the name for one of the shopping malls owned by the SORAINEN client.

In its objections regarding the registration of the client’s trade mark “Olimpia” the International Olympic Committee argued that SORAINEN’s client’s trade mark is confusingly similar to some of the Committee’s trade marks; visually, phonetically and conceptually. And therefore BPT Real Estate Services’ trade mark should not be registered in Latvia.

SORAINEN successfully proved to the Latvian Patent Board's Appeal Council that the client’s trade mark “Olimpia” could not be considered as confusingly similar in this case, and that neither did it harm the interests of the International Olympic Committee.

The client was represented by the head of the Dispute Resolution Team in Latvia, partner Agris Repss and intellectual property specialist associate Andris Taurins.
