OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus is seeking better solutions to protect its home market from imports, with a corresponding ordinance to be adopted by the end of 2013.

Belarus' Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko made a statement to this effect at the joint session of both chambers of the Belarusian parliament on October 31.

“We must not forget about civilized means of protecting our home market. Since Russia joined the WTO, Belarus has seen an increase in imports, including poor-quality products. Once Kazakhstan joins the WTO, the situation is likely to deteriorate. Belarus should protect its market by following technical regulations of the Customs Union to the letter,” Semashko said.

Belarus plans to intensify technical quality control in this sector, Semashko said.
