OREANDA-NEWS. The results of Q3, 2013 show that Ukrainian TCG market increased by 12% compared with the same period last year, despite its high indicators. In general, the market amounted to UAH 12.8 billion. Growth rates in almost all sectors have somewhat slowed down since the beginning of the year. However, due to the drastic growth in the Telecommunications sector (+27%), in general the market is steadily grow-ing. The Photo sector is still decreasing (-9%). Major and Small Domestic Appliances have grown by 12% and 7%, respectively. Consumer Electron-ics grew by 11% and the IT sector by 9%.

Telecommunications: Larger screen – more profit

The total volume of the Telco market in Q3, 2013 amounted to UAH 2.8 billion, which is 27% more than the same period in 2012. The smartphone segment increased by 60% vs. Q3, 2012 and now makes up more than 70% of the market. Gadgets with two SIM-cards are still in high demand, which is accompanied by the increase of the average market price for these devices. In addition, there is a growing demand for smartphones with a display of more than 4 inches. As for other groups in this sector, there is still a negative trend: mobile phones (-23%), faxes and fixed line phones    (-30% and -5%, respectively).

Major Domestic Appliances: Continuing growth

Sales volume of the MDA market sees continuing increases in the third quarter. In general, in Q3, 2013 the market has reached UAH 3 billion, which is 12% more compared to the same period last year. All product cat-egories saw an increase in sales revenue with the most rapidly growing being tumble dryers and freezers. Other growth was shown by refrigerators (+8%), washing machines (+8%), cookers and ovens (+16%). Hobs and microwave ovens show a double-digit increase.

Consumer Electronics: The launch of advanced technologies has no impact on demand

In Q3, 2013 the Consumer Electronics market makes up UAH 1.8 billion. It is 11% more than in the same period of the last year. Sales of the key group – flat-panel TVs show a 14% increase due to the growth of sales of LED TVs. Launching of Ultra HD into the market has had no significant impact on sales so far. Though the range of devices with Ultra HD is gradually growing, it is still a limited number of models with 55 and more inches display at a relatively high price. Similar to the last period, the demand for smartphones and media tablets led to an increase in memory cards (+44%). Moreover, USB memory is also growing. At the same time, the sales volumes of video game consoles, video cameras, and home audio systems are falling in Quarter 3, 2013.

Information Technology: Media tablets gaining more interest than laptops

The IT market increased by 9% in Q3 2013 compared to the same period last year and amounted to UAH 3.5 billion. The main trend in the IT market is still the significant demand for media tablets. This segment made the largest contribution to the general growth of the sector. Laptops, which constitute 50% of the total IT market, fell by 5% in Q3, 2013 due to the decrease in the share of netbooks. The total segment of electronic books is declining (-16%), which is mainly due to the low demand for e-books with an LCD display. The sales volume of desktop computers decreased by 24% and monitors decreased by 12% compared with Q3, 2012. Quite a rapid growth is seen for computer peripherals – keyboards and mice, the former is primarily due to the sales of portable devices.

Small Domestic Appliances: "Coffee” mood

Quarter 3, 2013 for the SDA market shows a slowdown in sales when compared to the previous quarters, adding 7% to the index of Q3, 2012.In total, the market makes up about UAH 962 million. The market slowdown has not affected the growth of espresso machines. The third quarter was marked by significant changes in the ratio between the main categories of the segment, namely, the gap between the sales rates of expensive Full Automatic Espresso Machines and cheaper Manual Espresso Machines has significantly increased in favor of the former. The most significant decline in sales is seen for bread makers, food steamers, juicers, and irons.

Office equipment: Demonstration of the positive dynamics

The market volume of Office Equipment amounted to UAH 240 million in Quarter 3, 2013 and showed a 4% increase. The segment continuing to perform well is multifunction devices with a 10% growth rate. The sales rate of printers in Quarter 3, 2013 has decreased by 5%. This decline is due to the decrease in sales of laser printers, while the sales of inkjet printers are growing. As for scanners, this segment is also showing the negative trends in Quarter 3, 2013.
