OREANDA-NEWS. NEC Corporation announced plans to enhance IBM InfoSphere Guardium (Guardium) scale-out architecture database software through the use of NEC's "InfoFrame Elastic Relational Store" (IERS), which provides flexible scalability and high reliability for rapid data growth. The latest IERS functions enable it to monitor unauthorized access, acquire and maintain audit trails, provide security at a level equivalent to that of Relational Database (RDB) products, and to offer audit support.

The IERS is composed of database software that is optimized for big data projects and enables flexible system enhancements by using Key Value Stores (KVS) to keep pace with increasing volumes of data. This software also provides high-speed transaction processing and SQL access, similar to that of an RDB, by leveraging unique technologies developed by NEC Laboratories America.

Guardium is an IBM software for database security that achieves real-time security by monitoring database access to detect information leaks and data tampering. Equipped with functions that use information logs to generate reports on the handling of internal controls, Guardium has developed a proven international track record as a database audit software.

The benefits of introducing IERS in combination with Guardium include: Ensuring robust security, as well as reducing costs related to audit support and compliance measures

IERS' functionality enables Guardium to: analyze and monitor SQL statements that access IERS; detect unauthorized access; and acquire and maintain audit trails.

Furthermore, access log information can be used with the numerous audit report formats provided by Guardium, thereby facilitating implementation of various compliance measures, such as internal control, information leak prevention and support of PCI-DSS, the global security standard of the credit card industry.

In addition to ensuring robust security, users can reduce the costs associated with generating reports and dealing with audits.

Supporting big data while maintaining security policies already in operation. Customers already using Guardium can apply and share policies and audit reports in the same manner as with already installed databases when strengthening support for big data through the introduction of IERS.

Leveraging Guardium's know-how, IERS can be used to realize the establishment and implementation of security measures, as well as low-cost installation and construction.
