OREANDA-NEWS. A new Berlin Bridge is open for general traffic in Kaliningrad. Bridges over the rivers Staraya and Novaya Pregolya were built by the SK MOST Group of Companies ahead of schedule.

Aleksandr Yaroshuk, Governor of the Region, and Eduard Frizen, General Director of LLC SPETSMOST, attended the opening of traffic.

The builders of SPETSMOST, which is part of SK MOST Group of Companies, have completed the first phase of construction of the new bridge well ahead of schedule. It was planned to open traffic over the bridge in August 2014, however, the builders made an effort and finish the work ahead of schedule. The new bridge has three lanes.

Construction of a new three-lane bridge to run parallel to the bridge that has just opened will begin next year as the second phase. The general contractor will be determined by competition.

The total length of the new bridge is over 640 meters, and the approaches are 1,200 meters long. The bridge over the Staraya and Novaya Pregolya rivers is part of a Trans-European Transport route 1-A Riga - Kaliningrad - Gdansk. The existing bridge, built in 1937, destroyed during the hostilities in January 1945 and partially restored in 1963, does not meet modern requirements.
