OREANDA-NEWS. Specialists from Transstroymekhanizatsiya (TSM), Mostotrest’s subsidiary, have completed construction and installation work to rebuild the Paved Runway 1 and the adjoining taxiways at Vnukovo Airport on time and in full. The client for the project was the Civil Airports (Airfields) Administration, a federal state unitary enterprise. The reconstruction of the Paved Runway 1 was performed in accordance with the “Civil Aviation” sub-programme of the federal strategic programme “Development of Russia’s transport system for 2010-2020”.

Two state contracts were signed for the purpose of the Paved Runway 1 upgrade, on 4 May 2011 and 17 September 2012. The contracts were worth RUB 7.5 and 2.6 billion (including VAT) respectively. The project included modernisation of parts of the airport infrastructure - the Paved Runway 1 upgrade (60m wide and extended to 3,500m in length including installation of a rainwater drainage system, lighting navigation aids and landing facilities), and construction of the RD-M2 and RD-A13 taxiways as well as the Firefighting Pad 4.

In July 2011 TSM completed in record time the reconstruction of the crossing point of Paved Runways 1 and 2, followed in 2012 by the reconstruction phase of the 3,000m-long Paved Runway 1 and the adjoining taxiways, including work on rebuilding the engineering networks and the lighting navigation aids and radio navigation and landing facilities.

During the renovation, TSM employed advanced slab concrete pavement technologies, using Gomaco concrete-laying machines, which shorten execution time and ensure high quality of airfield pavement.

Vnukovo Airport is part of the Moscow air hub (MAH). According to the estimates of the specialized aviation institutions, passenger volumes at MAH airports could increase from 51 million to 90 million a year from 2011 through 2020. The rapid growth of passenger traffic necessitates an increase in airfields throughput capacity and development of terminal structures, airspace, and the external ground infrastructure.
