OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, has welcomed new subscribers as part of MNP service. All newcomers are former Vimpelcom subscribers.
On 1 December, Tele2 Russia started accepting applications from other operators’ subscribers who wanted to switch service and keep old phone numbers. Today four first subscribers have left Vimpelcom network in St. Petersburg, Vladimir, Tver and Nizhniy Novgorod to join Tele2.
On the part of Tele2 Russia, acceptance of new subscribers passed as planned and without any technical issues. In one hour after subscribers had been disconnected from Vimpelcom network they were registered on Tele2 Russia network with their previous numbers and were able to make calls, send and receive SMS.
Under the current legislation, the procedure for moving the number to another operator’s database is taking up to eight days. At the same time, the operator has a right to select any date prior to 15 April 2014 for the beginning of providing services to the client. The first cases of subscribers switching operator have confirmed that Tele2 Russia is technically ready to connect and disconnect subscribers while meeting all deadlines for processing applications.
However, the mobile number portability is an intricate process that involves many participants and their technical readiness for MNP launch may differ. To guarantee success of MNP, Tele2 recommends that subscribers use the service after the New Year holidays.
Tele2 has set up a MNP special platform mnp.tele2.ru – it contains detailed instructions on MNP and answers to FAQ.
Roman Volodin, Tele2 Russia CCO:
