OREANDA-NEWS. The 2012 Government Science and Technology Rewards Ceremony took place on November 18, in Moscow. Seven representatives of TVEL Fuel Company were conferred a State Award for process development and establishment of industrial-scale production of superconductors for prospective areas of science and technology:

K.M. Abramushin, Project Supervisor, JSC CMP;

D.S. Anishchuk, Deputy Director General, JSC CMP;

A.E. Vorobieva, Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Deputy Director General, Director of Department, JSC “VNIINM”;

S.M. Zernov, Project Supervisor - Establishment of Superconducting Materials Production, TVEL JSC;

Yu.A. Kudriavtsev, Senior Vice-President, TVEL JSC;

V.V. Rozhdestvensky, Senior Vice-President, TVEL JSC;

K.V. Utkin, Deputy Shop Foreman, JSC CMP.

Please, note that within the framework of the Russian Federation's participation in ITER project, TVEL JSC directed the process development and establishment of industrial-scale production of superconductors at Chepetsky Mechanical Plant. Their industrial-scale production was launched in 2009. During the process development the personnel of JSC “VNIINM” solved a series of complex engineering problems. 18 patents acknowledge the novelty, relevance and practical utility of the developed engineering solutions.

The uniqueness of the superconductor production at JSC CMP is that they are produced at one enterprise, beginning from raw materials (niobium, niobium-titanium alloy, noil) to finished products: superconducting strands - wires with diameter less than 1 mm and with up to 14.500 superconducting filaments.

JSC CMP will to the fullest extent discharge its obligations under this project in 2014, and the enterprise's long-range task will be a search for new replacement products. Superconducting materials production provides an opportunity to use the current high technology potential of the plant in new science-based projects in various areas of application - space, medicine, power industry, geological exploration; railway, water and air transport. The superconducting materials can be used in powerful magnets for scientific and industrial application. Tomographic wire production is one of the area of application.
