OREANDA-NEWS. NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the ICT solutions and international communications business within NTT, and Virtela Technology Services Incorporated (Virtela), a leading global managed and cloud-based network services company, announced today that NTT Com's acquisition of Virtela has been completed.

The acquisition creates a single provider with sophisticated platforms and global network services capable of fulfilling not only current enterprise connectivity needs, but also emerging requirements for hybrid MPLS and Internet networks to establish more flexible, secure and high-speed access to cloud services. Service and operational integration will be completed this year, while customers will continue to enjoy NTT Com's service quality and Virtela's award-winning customer support, without any service migration or changes.

"Customers of both companies will benefit from the resulting, enhanced portfolio," said Akira Arima, CEO of NTT Com. "Leveraging advanced virtualization technologies, such as Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), features such as firewall, WAN acceleration and SSL remote access will be delivered from network cloud. Furthermore, these features are automated for on-demand activation and configuration, helping enterprises save capital and operating expenses. These features are planned to be available to NTT Com customers starting Q2 2014."

"Many of our customers and partners request total ICT solutions. Leveraging NTT Com's broad service portfolio together with Virtela's asset-light networking, we will now be able to offer more choices and a single source for all their cloud computing, data networking, security and voice service requirements, " said Virtela President Ron Haigh. "Together, our advanced global infrastructure enables rapid innovation and value for more customers around the world while strengthening our leadership in cloud-based networking services."

Virtela Founder Vab Goel will be chairman of Virtela's board. "Together, the NTT Com and Virtela team is looking forward to transforming the networking market on a global basis," said Goel. "Leveraging a shared cloud vision and passion for innovation and customer support will accelerate creation of more advanced services that eliminate the complexity and expense of traditional enterprise network approaches."
