OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2014. In Kazakhstan, the share of renewable energy sources (RES) will be up to 3% out of total electricity generation by 2020, and it will grow to 30% by 2050, Minister of Environment and Water Resources Nurlan Kapparov informed during the seminar on the theme: "Green" economy: energy efficiency and conservation".

"The share of renewable energy will be up to 3% out of total electricity generation, and by 2050 - 30%," - the Minister noted.

According to expert judgements, potential of renewable energy resources such as hydro, wind and solar energy is very significant and is estimated over 1 trillion kilowatt-hours per year in Kazakhstan.

In addition, Kazakhstan Government is preparing an improvement plan for implementation of Renewable Energy Sources Project until 2020 today. It is expected to put into operation the renewable energy facilities with a capacity of 1.8 MW according to this plan.

"Starting from 2011, about 25 MW of capacity has been generated at the expense of renewable energy sources in the country's energy balance structure. The energy balance is to increase by another 50 MW until the end of 2014", - N.Kapparov said.
