OREANDA-NEWS. January 28, 2014. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (“CLP Power”) published the November 2013 data in relation to energy costs for electricity generation and electricity sales on its website.

Local electricity sales for the month of November were 2,304 GWh, representing a 0.1% decrease over November 2012.

In the first eleven months of 2013, local sales of electricity decreased by 0.7% over the same period last year. In November 2013, the total amount of electricity sent out for local sales was 2,414 GWh.

Total energy costs incurred were HKD875 million, of which fuel costs accounted for HKD 671 million. Total fuel costs per unit of electricity were 29.1?. Fuel costs not in cluded in basic  tariff were 14.4 ? per unit.

On our customers’ bills, the fuel costs not included in the basic tariff are charged through the “Fuel Clause Charge”, the current rate of which was set at 22.4? per unit in January 2013. With regard to the breakdown of electricity sent out by energy type in November 2013, the proportion of coal saw a notable increase over October 2013 due to the following reasons:

(1) the outage in the gas facilities and nuclear power generating unit during the month; and (2) more use of low emission coals so as to optimise gas consumption while still meeting the emissions requirements.

Starting from November 2013, CLP has published monthly data in relation to energy costs for electricity generation and electricity sales on its website as a step to enhancing information transparency.
