Over 100 km of fiber-optic communication lines were laid in the Mountain cluster, over 40 km in the Coastal cluster and over 80 km - in the territory between them.

“We completed all construction activities of the network infrastructure according to the schedule, and invested over 10 bln roubles and a lot of hard work of our team into the project, - says CEO of MegaFon Ivan Tavrin. The last installations for the MegaFon network were railway and motor tunnels from Adler to Krasnaya Polyana. On December 16, 2013, MegaFon received from Russian Railways authorization to build the network facilities and on January 10 MegaFon already provided mobile network coverage in all six tunnels. Over 100 specialists installed the equipment during the night. To implement the project, 19 antennas of base stations were set up with active slot cable exceeding 11 km in length, and over 11 km of fiber optic cable were laid.

The MegaFon monitoring control center operates round-the-clock controlling network quality, including each Olympic facility. It has also been interacting with the Olympic Control Center of the Organizing Committee Sochi 2014 from January 7, 2014. Leading up to February 7th, the network quality at separate venuess, interaction and regulations will all be fine-tuned with different agencies to ensure safe and secure communication at the Olympics.

MegaFon has successfully tested its mobile network during previous major events in Sochi, including the international winter sports competitions in 2012 and 2013, the International Investment Forum in 2013 and the Channel One Cup (ice hockey). MegaFon's network worked successfully under the increased loads.

In the Bolshoi Ice Palace, which hosted the Channel One Cup in December 2013, the average mobile Internet speed in 4G networks was 35 Mb/s, and peak speed rates reached 60 Mb/s.

In 2009, MegaFon became a General Partner for the Sochi XXII Winter Olympic and XI Paralympic Games in 2014.
