OREANDA-NEWS. KDDI Corporation and Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd. wish to announce that the Microsoft Lync unified communications system (hereafter Microsoft Lync) has been adopted for the new communications platform to be used by Toshiba Corporation and the Toshiba Group.

Microsoft Lync is a communications platform provided by MSJ that is capable of using a platform that unifies voice and video calls, presence information and online meetings, and is built on KDDI's Cloud Platform Service. Operation as an integrated unified communications service has already begun at Toshiba's Smart Community Center (Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture) and delivery to other bases in Japan will be undertaken.

Microsoft Lync has been deployed by several users in Japan and abroad as a globally unified communications platform, driving the transformation of work styles, enhancement of BCP (business continuity planning) and strengthening of global competitiveness.

By building Microsoft Lync on KDDI's Cloud Platform Service, the server capacity can be set without waste to meet increases in the number of users or expansion of the system. Seamless connection with KDDI phone services and network services is also achieved, promoting effective use of IT resources.

Toshiba decided to introduce Microsoft Lync so as to reform the communications platform for business continuity planning in times of emergency, promoting innovation by revitalizing communication across the organization and between departments and reducing the time and cost of traveling between offices.

KDDI and MSJ will continue to work together to deliver the latest communications platforms, including utilization by mobile tools, and provide support to customers for the promotion of innovation and enhancement of productivity.
